Wildcats Fall to Third after Day Two at Pac-10 Championships

Federal Way, Wash. ?- The No. 7 Arizona men’s swimming and diving team completed the second day of competition at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships dropping to third place with 191 points behind Cal and Stanford.

 

            Starting things off for the Wildcats in the 500 freestyle was senior Tyler DeBerry, who finished 11th in the race with a time of 4:24.28 as sophomore Matt Biel finished 14th (4:27.16).

 

The Wildcats posted three NCAA automatic qualifying times during tonight’s competition, for a total of five at the meet. Junior Adam Ritter posted the first qualifying time in the 200 individual medley, as he finished fourth with a time of 1:45.69, while senior Dave Rollins finished sixth in the race with a time of 1:47.15.

 

Senior Lyndon Ferns finished fourth in the championship finals of the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.77 as senior Simon Burnet won the ?'B’ finals, placing seventh overall, with a time of 19.50.

 

For the final event, the 200 free relay comprised of Burnett, Ferns, Ritter and freshman Nicolas Nilo finished third with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:28.40.

 

            The men will be back in action tomorrow for day three of the Pac-10 Championships at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatics Center. Preliminary action will begin at 11 a.m. (PST) and finals will start at 6 p.m.
