TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Jamelle Horne was named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 22-28, league commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.
Horne, a 6-foot-6, 209-pound, sophomore forward from San Diego, Calif., posted career-high totals of 19 points and 13 rebounds in Arizona's 84-67 win over Kansas on Dec. 23. He also knocked down a career-best two treys and added two assists and a steal. Horne connected 7-of-13 (.538) field goal attempts and eight of his 13 rebounds were offensive.
Horne collected his first career double-double as the Wildcats handed the defending national champions its worst loss of the season. On the year, Horne averages 8.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field.
Horne is the second Arizona player to earn Pac-10 Player-of-the-Week honors this season, joining Jordan Hill on Dec. 15. It is the first time Horne has earned the distinction in his career, and the 73rd all-time award for an Arizona player.
Arizona (8-3) is next in action on Monday, Dec. 29, against Weber State in Tucson. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MST and can be seen on FS Arizona.
