TUCSON, Ariz. ?C The University of Arizona menˇ?s golf team protected its lead?and then some?in winning the Wolf Pack Classic?Tuesday in Reno, Nev.

Arizona entered todayˇ?s final round with a four-stroke lead and went out and posted the only team round below par to win the event by a comfortable 16 strokes. UAˇ?s final-round 285 (-3) gave the team a three-round total of 850, which earned the programˇ?s first outright victory since the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on April 9, 2006. Arizona also shared the NCAA West Regional title with Florida later that same season. It is the 67th team championship in program history.

The Wildcats were the only team to finish below par in the 19-team field.

Junior Tyler Neal claimed individual medalist honors after shooting a two-under 70 in the final round. His six-under 210 total won the event by a stroke. For Neal, it was his first career victory and the lowest tournament total of his collegiate career.

Neal led a UA charge, as all five UA golfers finished in the top 17 places. Joining Neal in the top 10 was freshman Tarquin MacManus. The Cairns, Queensland, Australia, product shot a two-over 74 Tuesday to finish the event tied for eighth place at two-under 214. It was the first top-10 finish for MacManus.

Senior Creighton Honeck used Arizonaˇ?s low round of the day, a four-under 68, to move into a tie for 13th place at one-under 214. Honeck has posted top-20 finishes in each of his last two events. He finished one stroke ahead of Trey Denton, who finished in 16th place at even-par 216.

Freshman Andrew Kelly tied for 17th place at one-over 217. Kelly posted a final-round 74.

The Wolf Pack Classic was contested at Wolf Run Golf Club, a par 72, 7,100-yard layout. Arizona will next be in action on Oct. 21-23 at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
