WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona shortstop Kristie Fox earned her second Pacific-10 Player of the Week honor of the year for her performance this past weekend in UA’s sweep of Arizona State, California and Stanford.

“As always, it is always nice to be recognized for on-field performance, but the most important thing to take out of this weekend is four huge Pac-10 wins,” Fox said.  “Hopefully, our team will carry this into this week’s games against the Oregon schools and then into a Regional berth after that.”

During the weekend, Fox hit .571 (4-for-7) with four runs scored and four RBI.  She slugged 1.143 and had an on-base percentage of .667, aided in part by her five walks and one hit by pitch.

After going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run in Arizona’s 10-0 rout of ASU, the California pitching staff walked Fox twice in her three plate appearance, as the Golden Bears likely remembered the San Diego, Calif., native hitting a game-winning home run against them back in Berkeley on April 22.

Fox’s biggest game of the weekend came on Saturday against Stanford.  Although she went 2-for-3 and drove in two of UA’s three runs in the game, the biggest hit came without a doubt in the bottom of the seventh inning.  After the Wildcats had tied the Cardinal 2-2 with two outs in the last frame, Fox doubled home Autumn Champion to score the game’s winning run in walk-off fashion.

On Sunday, the Cardinal wanted no part of Fox, as she drew walks in two of her three plate appearances once again.

Arizona next plays on Thursday, May 11, against Oregon at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader at Hillenbrand Stadium.  After that, the Wildcats will play the last two games of the regular season against No. 6 Oregon State, which is jockeying with the Wildcats for second place in the Pac-10.
