 Esler’s one-over 217 ties him for 17th place individually

               

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona posted a four-over 292 total Saturday to finish in a tie for eighth place at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.

 

Arizona’s 292 tally Saturday gave the team a three-round total of 879 (+15) and placed the Wildcats in a three-way tie for eighth place.  In its first event of the 2005-06 season, no UA golfer broke par in the final round.  UA finished 28 strokes behind tournament-winner UNLV (851) in the field of 20 teams.  Brigham Young (861) and Texas Tech (862) rounded out the top three places.

 

Only two members of the UA lineup reached par over the final 18 holes, juniors Josh Esler and Brian Prouty.  Esler’s final-round 72 game him a 54-hole total of one-over 217, which tied him for 17th place.  Prouty’s even-par 72 was his best round of the tournament and placed him in a tie for 76th place at 228 (+12).

 

Junior Henry Liaw finished tied for 23rd place at two-over 218, while sophomore Travis Esway tied for 31st place at four-over 220.  Junior Josh Wilks tied for 85th place at 16-over 232.

 

Two Wildcats competed in the field as individuals.  Junior Nathan Tyler, who tallied one of Arizona’s three under-par rounds of the tournament during the second round, tied fro 13th place at even-par 216.  Junior Mark Lamb tied for 31st place at four-over 220.

 

The William H. Tucker Intercollegiate was contested at The Championship Course, a par-72, 7,339-yard layout.

 

Arizona will next be in action, Oct. 3-4, at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge in Chicago, Ill.
