TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona head women's tennis coach Vicky Maes today announced the hiring of Ryan Stotland as an assistant coach.

Stotland joins the Wildcat staff after spending the last three years on the ATP Tour, as well as serving as a student assistant for the University of New Mexico men's and women's programs.

"I'm very excited to have Ryan as our assistant," said Maes. "His addition to the Arizona staff is an important piece in the future success of this program. He is easy to work with, has a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and I trust that he will do an amazing job for the Wildcats. Aside from being an excellent tennis player, Ryan understands the competitive spirit of college tennis and is very passionate about working with young people. His knowledge and experience in doubles will also allow us to become stronger in that area."

Before joining the professional ranks, Stotland played the top position in both singles and doubles for New Mexico during his career from 2002-05. He was ranked as high as No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's doubles rankings. Stotland finished his career with an 86-38 (.694) career record in doubles competition and a 74-38 (.661) record in singles play. He ranks in the top 10 in both doubles and singles career victories at UNM and is one of only five players in school history to accomplish that feat.

"I am extremely pleased to be a new member of the Wildcat family," said Stotland. "I embrace the opportunity to help the women's team. We are in a position to make a big impact this year with fresh kids and a fresh attitude. I'm excited to be a part of that transition and feel honored to be on board. Vicky and I have the same passion for college tennis and I believe we will bring out the best in our young players."

Stotland, 25, is a native of Pocatello, Idaho. A four-time ITA Scholar Athlete award winner, Stotland received degrees in accounting, marketing, and general management from New Mexico in 2006.
