TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona volleyball team put aside its season long struggles on offense to post a decisive 3-0 win over Oregon at McKale Center on Thursday. Game scores of UA's second conference win this season were 30-21, 30-28, 30-19.
The Wildcats inched closer to the .500 mark with the win, improving to 8-10 overall and 2-6 in the Pac-10, while Oregon fell to 3-14 overall with its ninth-straight loss and winless in the conference at 0-8.
The Arizona back row showed an marked improvement in its passing and senior Kelly Griffin-Halfaker dished out a match-high 38 assists to help three different teammates finish with double figure kills on the night.
Sophomore Jennifer Abernathy became the first Wildcat other than Kim Glass to lead the team in kills in a match this season with 13 against the Ducks on Thursday. Junior Jolene Killough added 12 more and Glass finished with 11, her 25th-straight match in double digit kills dating back to last season.
Led by sophomore Bre Ladd, who posted nine kills on 14 swings with zero errors for a match-high .643 hitting percentage, the Wildcats out-hit Oregon .347 to .245. Arizona also made liberal use of UO's struggles in the service game to record a season-high 13 service aces in the match. Glass led all players individually with five aces on the night.
The Wildcats will wrap up the first half of the Pac-10 season on Friday against Oregon State. The match against the Beavers can been seen live on Fox Sports Net Arizona at 7 pm.
