TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona women’s basketball coach Joan Bonvicini today announced the hiring of Jashell Mitchell as the Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Operations. She officially starts Sept. 13.
"We’re very excited to have Jashell on board," Bonvicini said. "I think she’ll be a tremendous asset to our women’s basketball program."
Mitchell spent last year as the seventh grade girls basketball coach at Donnell Middle School in Findlay, Ohio. She participated in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/Nike "So You Want to Be a Coach" program at last year’s Final Four in Boston. Mitchell also served in administrative/operations roles for the Morris Peterson, Mateen Cleaves and Robaire Smith basketball and football camps in Flint, Mich.
From 2003-05, Mitchell served as an operations/administrative assistant for both the men’s basketball and football teams at her alma mater, Bethune-Cookman.
"I’m excited to have the chance to work with a tremendous Pac-10 program," Mitchell said. "I believe U of A athletics are in store for some great things."
A native of Flint, Mitchell was a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Bethune-Cookman, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education/recreation in 2005.
