AUSTIN, Tex. - Three Arizona players shot 1-under par rounds of 71to help the Wildcats move into second place after the second round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, Saturday afternoon at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Junior Alejandra Llaneza, sophomore Margarita Ramos and freshman Sherlyn Popelka each shot 1-under par in the second round of the 54-hole event to help the Wildcats card a team score of 3-under par 285.
The low team score of the day allowed the Wildcats to move within one shot of leader UCLA at 10-over par 586. The Bruins shot 2-over 290 on Saturday and sits at 9-over par for the tournament.
Sophomore Isabelle Boineau completed the fine team round by shooting even par and is in 5th place overall at 1-over par, sitting two shots behind co-leaders Stephanie Kono of UCLA and Sarah Zwartynski of Texas A&M at 2-under. Llaneza is tied for 6th at 2-over par while Ramos shares 10th place at 3-over.
Popelka gave the Wildcats a fourth player inside the top 20 of the individual leaderboard as one of seven players tied for 12th place at 4-over par. Nikki Koller finished with a round of 79 on Saturday and is tied for 51st while Ashley Malaska, competing as an individual, shot 80 on the day.
Arizona looks for its second team win of the season on Sunday with a shotgun start sending the team five scoring members of the team out over the first three holes at 8:45 a.m., while Malaska will tee off on the 18th hole.
