ORLANDO, Fla. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team struggled through the first two rounds of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Friday, losing both of their contests.
The sixth-seeded Wildcats fell to 11th-seeded Michigan State in the first round, despite strong performances from junior Alison Walshe and sophomore Adriana Zwanck. Michigan State won the match-up 3-2 to advance to the winner matches.
In the second round, the Wildcats were matched up against the 14th seed, University of Alabama. Junior Mary Jacobs was the only Wildcat to come out with a victory. Freshman Brittany Benvenuto tied her match with Alabama’s Rhea Nair.
The teams advancing to the third round tomorrow include:
Winners Matches: No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 11 Michigan State vs. No. 2 Duke.
Consolation Matches: No. 8 Purdue vs. No. 5 Wake Forest and No. 14 Alabama vs. the winner of No. 10 Florida vs. No. 15 South Carolina.
