DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ?- The No. 14 Arizona women’s golf team completed the first round of play at the NCAA Championships in 12th place.  The Wildcats carded a 304 (+16), nine strokes behind tournament leader Southern Cal.  Fellow Pac-10 teams Stanford and UCLA are also in the top-10, currently in fourth place and tied for seventh place respectively.


The tournament is being held at the LPGA International Legends Golf Course, which stretches 6,351 yards and is a par-72.


UC Irvine’s Selanee’ Henderson leads the field individually, after shooting a three-under par 69 on Tuesday.  Only one stroke behind is Amanda Blumenherst of Duke, who is currently ranked as the No. 1 player in the country.


Sophomore Amanda Wilson leads the way for the Wildcats after one round of play with a score of 73 (+1).  The Hilo, Hawaii native is currently tied for ninth place.


Fellow sophomore Adriana Zwanck is tied for 22nd place after carding a three-over par 75 in the first round.  Two strokes behind Zwanck is junior Alison Walshe, who currently stands in a tie for 53rd place with a 77 (+5).


Junior Mary Jacobs is tied for 83rd place with a score of 79 (+7).


Freshman Brittany Benvenuto carded an 82 (+10) on Tuesday to stand in a tie for 110th place.


The tournament continues tomorrow with a second round tee time of 8 am.
