AUGUSTA, Ga. - The University of Arizona's Ricky Barnes continues to prove himself among the very best in golf as he heads into Sunday's final round at The Masters in a tie for 18th place.

Barnes, a senior from Stockton, Calif., posted a third-round 75 (+3) Saturday and is in a five-way tie for 18th place at 218 (+2). He trails tournament leader Jeff Maggert by seven strokes as he heads into Sunday's final 18 holes.

If Barnes just manages to hold his position, it will be his second consecutive top-20 finish in a PGA Tour event this season. He earned a tie for 18th place at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson last month and previously competed in the U.S. Open (2000 and 2002). In nine collegiate events this season, Barnes has a 71.66 stroke average in the final round. In the final round of the Chrysler Classic of Tucson on March 2, he carded a two-under 70.

The reigning United States Amateur Champion, Barnes collected three birdies and 10 pars in Saturday's round. He was as low as two-under for the event through No. 10 Saturday, but played the final eight holes in four-over par.

Through nine scoring events this collegiate season, Barnes boasts a 71.56 scoring average and has earned six top-10 finishes. He has led Arizona to four tournament championships in its last five events.

Barnes joins former University of Arizona standout Jim Furyk on the leader board. Furyk is in a three-way tie for eighth place at 216 (E) through 54 holes.

Along with playing partner Chris Riley, Barnes will begin his final round at 1:10 p.m. EDT on Sunday.
