The Arizona volleyball team outhit host No. 5 Washington, .222-.194, but couldn’t pull off its first conference road win and lost 3-1 Friday night in Seattle.
The Wildcats (16-13, 6-11) lost their ninth straight road match 25-23, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-17 to the No. 5 Huskies (23-4, 14-3).
After winning national and conference player of the week honor last weekend, sophomore Tiffany Owens continued to play well, leading the team in kills with 19 and adding 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season and second in as many matches.
Sophomore Paige Weber also earned a double-double with 50 assists and 11 digs in the loss.
Through the matches first two sets, the Wildcats hung with the nationally ranked Huskies. Arizona tied the sets a combined 23 times, with the lead changing 11 times.
The Wildcats finally broke through, winning the third set to avoid the sweep, but Washington responded by dominating the fourth set without giving up the lead on its way to the win.
Sophomore Whitney Dosty also played well for Arizona, leading the team with a .324 hitting percentage while collecting 15 kills.
The Wildcats travel across the state of Washington to play Washington State Saturday night at 8 p.m. local time. That match will close out the regular season for both teams and Arizona will find out its postseason fate Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Tucson time in the NCAA tournament selection show.
