In individual events, UA ranks tied for No. 10 on floor (49.165), No. 14 on beam (49.010), No. 21 on bars (48.970) and No. 16 on vault (49.050). The Wildcats were tabbed as the No. 16 team in the nation according to the preseason coaches’ poll. Arizona has been ranked in the Top 25 in 84 of the last 85 polls, including 35 straight. Individually, Karin Wurm ranks tied for No. 7 in the nation on bars, with an RQS of 9.910 and No. 21 in the all-around (39.350). Additionally, Danielle Hicks ranks tied for No. 22 on beam (9.870).

About the Rankings: Unlike other collegiate athletic rankings, collegiate gymnastic rankings are not based on wins and losses or votes. Gymnastic teams are ranked by their meet scores alone.  From Jan. 15-Feb. 12, teams were ranked by their total season average.  Since Feb. 19, teams and gymnasts are being ranked by a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS).  An RQS is based on a team's top six regular-season scores, with three scores coming from away meets. To obtain the RQS, the team's or gymnast’s highest score is dropped and the remaining five scores are averaged.

A Look at the Cardinal: Ranked No. 4 in the nation, Stanford enters competition this week as the top seed in the South Central Regional. Two weeks ago, the Cardinal placed second at the Pac-10 Championships, posting a team total of 196.950. The Cardinal are currently ranked No.10 on vault, No. 4 on bars, No. 5 on beam and No. 6 on floor. Freshman Carly Janiga is ranked No. 20 in the all-around and seventh on bars, while Tabitha Yim is ranked fifth on bars.

A Look at the Beavers: Oregon State enters regional competition tied for No. 8 in the nation with Pac-10 Champions UCLA. The Beavers placed third with a total of 196.300 at the Pac-10 Championships on March 31, 0.300 points ahead of the fourth-place Wildcats. OSU is currently ranked ninth on vault, 12th on bars, ninth on beam and seventh on floor. Individually, Jami Lanz is ranked eighth in the all-around, 23rd on bars, 13th on beam and 16th on floor. Tasha Smith is ranked 22nd in the all-around and 14th on vault, while Mandi Rodriguez is currently ranked eighth on vault.

A Look at the Illini: Illinois finished the regular season ranked 20th in the nation and a third place finish at the Big Ten Championships. The Fighting Illini are also currently ranked 21st on beam and 13th on bars. Cara Pomeroy is also ranked seventh on bars. This is Illinois' 20th trip to the NCAA Regional Championships. The Illini's best finish at a regional meet is fourth on several occasions, most recently in 2006. The Illini have never qualified for the national championships as a team.

A Look at the Sun Devils: Arizona State checks in just outside of the Top 25 this week and is currently ranked No. 26 in the country, including No. 22 on the balance beam. Senior April Boone is currently ranked 19th on floor, while Nicole Harris is ranked 22nd on beam. The Sun Devils placed sixth at the Pac-10 Championships on March 31, and are making their 26th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.

A Look at the Flames: Illinois-Chicago finished the season ranked 36th nationally. UIC's 2007 bid is the eighth all-time berth into NCAA regional competition for the Flames, who will also be making their second consecutive trip to the regional.
