Arizona Softball Team Picked to Finish First in the Pac-10

Tucson, Ariz. - The Pac-10 conference announced Tuesday that the defending Pac-10 Champion Arizona Wildcats were picked to finish first in the conference. This is the second consecutive year that the Cats have been picked to win the Pac-10 title. The rankings are chosen by conference coaches and the Wildcats received 46 points and four first place votes. Arizona shares the preseason first place honors with UCLA.

The Cats finished last season with a 65-4 record and 19-2 in the Pac-10. The Cats defeated the Bruins 1-0 in the College World Series to win the National Championship. Arizona took home the title for the sixth time under Head Coach Mike Candrea.

There will be a Lead Off Luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at noon which will be followed by media day at 3 p.m. at Rita Hillenbrand Stadium.

The 2002 season starts with the Cats hosting a double-header exhibition game against Sonoma State on Friday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
