Cason Named to FWAA Frosh Team

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Courtesy FWAA) ?- UA freshman cornerback Antoine Cason was selected to the The Football Writers Association of America and Scripps fourth annual Freshman All-America team today during the association's annual awards breakfast.

The team included three players from Michigan and two players each from Southern California, Arizona State and Auburn. There were six unanimous selections, including Heisman Trophy finalist, Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson.

In addition, UTEP coach Mike Price was named the top first-year coach at his school.

Cason, a true freshman who started throughout the 2004 season for UA, earlier was named to The Sporting News Freshman All-America team and that outlets All-Pac-10 Freshman Team as well as earning its Pac-10 Defensive Freshman of the Year honor. also named him to its Freshman All-America club and earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention.

Cason was the only Pac-10 freshman picked to the defensive unit and was one of five league picks including receiver Dwayne Jarrett of USC, tight end Zach Miller of ASU, offensive lineman Sam Baker of USC and punter Chris MacDonald of ASU. Cason was second on the Wildcats with 70 tackles and led the club with four interceptions.

"The job Antoine did as a true freshman was remarkable," UA head coach Mike Stoops said. "His natural talent and his willingness to become a better player are very positive signs of where this program is headed."

The Scripps team and coach are selected by a group of writers led by FWAA second vice-president Mike Griffith of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, a member of the Scripps chain. Both true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were considered for the team and so noted.
