TUCSON, Ariz.- The No. 21-ranked Arizona volleyball team saw its season-high five-match winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 loss to No. 22 UC Santa Barbara in California on Saturday. Game scores were 30-21, 30-25, 30-24 The loss was the second defeat the Wildcats have suffered to the Gauchos this year.
Arizona finished its regular season 17-14 overall and will await word on a postseason birth that will come on Sunday at 6 pm MST on ESPNEWS. UCSB, the Big West Conference champions, wrapped up its regular season with a 19-8 overall record.
Despite tallying 53 kills to UCSB's 40, the Wildcats struggled with their consistency on offense. Arizona committed 29 errors to the Gauchos' six, getting out-hit .382 to .190 in the process. UCSB also out-blocked Arizona 9.5 to 2.
Individually, sophomore All-America candidate Kim Glass led all players with 17 kills in the match. Classmate Jennifer Abernathy added 12 more and junior Jolene Killough chipped in with nine. Killough was the only Arizona starter to finish with a hitting percentage over .300 in the match.
UCSB's Jamie Blackshire paced the Gaucho attack with a team-high 13 kills. Erica Menzel and Janine Sandell each added 10 kills apiece in the winning effort.
As noted above, Arizona will learn its postseason fate on Sunday at 6 pm MST when the NCAA announces its tournament field on ESPNEWS.
