Liaw tied for fifth place at nine-under 135
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona shot a 13-under par 275 total and moved into second place after Thursday’s second round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Four of Arizona’s five golfers remain in the top 18 places en route to its lowest 36-hole-round total of the season. UA’s 13-under 275 helped the Wildcats finish the second round with a 553 (-23) total. UA stands in second place, four strokes behind New Mexico heading into tomorrow’s final round. UNLV (556), Brigham Young (557), San Diego State (560) and Texas Tech (560) round out the top five places in the field of 22 teams.
Leading the way for Arizona individually was sophomore Henry Liaw. Liaw fired a second round 66 (-6) and moved into a tie for fifth place with a 139 (-9) total. Senior Nathan Lashley shot a four-under 68 and moved into a tie for eighth place. New Mexico’s Spencer Levin, UNLV’s Ryan Moore and SMU’s Will Dodson are tied for first place at 132 (-12).
Sophomores Nathan Tyler and Josh Esler are tied for 18th place at four-under 140. Tyler carded a one-under 71 Thursday, while Esler shot a two-under 70 . Freshman Travis Esway stands in a tie for 31st place at 142 (-2) after carding an even par 72.
Also competing for the Wildcats was sophomore Mark Lamb, who is participating as an individual. Lamb is tied for 38th place at one-under 143 after shooting a two-under 70.
The 54-hole John A. Burns Intercollegiate continues through Friday at Leilehua Golf Course, a par 72, 6,917-yard layout. Arizona has won this event in each of the last two seasons.
