Chicago, Ill. ?- Arizona junior golfer Cassandra Kirkland was named Division I honorable mention by the National Golf Coaches Association recently.
A junior, Kirkland helped the Wildcats to eight Top 10 finishes. Individually, she finished in the Top 10 four times. The native of Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, France, was selected second team All-Pac-10 this season. Kirkland boasted a 73.83 stroke average in 11 collegiate events.
Kirkland shot a career-low round of 67 twice this season. The first came at the Stanford-Pepsi Invitational, where she finished the tournament tied for second (226). Her last round of 67 was during the second-round of the Pac-10 Championships. She finished the tournament tied for third with a three-day total of 211 (-5).
Kirkland’s inclusion on the All-America selection marks the 18th straight year an Arizona golfer has received the honor. Since 1987, 18 golfers have been named to the first team, eight selected to the second team and 13 have earned honorable mention status
