Gainesville, Fla.- Despite playing 1,700 miles from home in front of 4,381 hostile fans and facing a top 10 team with revenge on its mind, the sixth-ranked Arizona volleyball team (3-0) swept the ninth-ranked Florida Gators (2-1), Saturday afternoon to win the SunTrust Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. Game scores were 30-27, 30-28, 30-21.
Four Wildcat players recorded 48 of Arizona's 52 kills in the match. Paced by Lisa Rutledge's 16 kills, Stefani Saragosa and Shannon Torregrosa each tallied 11 a piece and Jill Talbot rapped home another 10.
UA had 52 kills on 112 swings with 18 errors for a .304 hitting percentage. The Wildcats have hit over .300 in all three of their matches this season.
Burkholder was named the Invitational MVP and Talbot and Rutledge were each named to the All-Invitational Team.
Florida's Aury Cruz was the lone bright spot for the Gators, leading all players with 19 kills on .351 hitting while also recording a match high 10 digs.
The Gators were looking for redemption after holding a two games to none advantage at McKale Center last season before dropping the last three games and the match.
Arizona returns to Tucson for its home opener next week as the Wildcats play host for the 18th-annual Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic. No. 21 Utah and Louisville will travel to the desert southwest for the three-day event. The Wildcats will face the Utes on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the opening match.
