COLUMBUS, Ohio ?- The Arizona women’s golf team posted an opening round score of eight-over-par 296 at the NCAA National Championships, hosted by Ohio State University. The Cats are currently in fourth place, out of 24 teams, heading into round two.

“Sommer has really turned it on as of late,” Allen said. “She was able to get her confidence up at regionals. It’s really nice to see her playing well at the right time.”
Arizona is only five strokes back of Central Region champion USC. The Trojans posted a 291 (+3) in the first round and currently sit atop the leader bored followed by ASU (292) and Florida (293).
Finishing day one in a tie for fifth place was Wake Forest and Duke, each shooting nine-over-par 297. Duke has won three of the last six national championships including last year in Oregon.

Pepperdine’s Eileen Vargas carded a four-under-par 68 and sits atop the individual leader bored after the first round.
