Wildcats Lose to Cougars in Double Overtime

PULLMAN, Wash. - The 19th-ranked Arizona women’s soccer team (8-4-2 overall, 3-1-0 Pac-10) lost its first Pac-10 match at the hands of Washington State (8-6-1 overall, 1-3-1 Pac-10), 2-1, in double overtime.

Arizona scored the first goal of the game at 60:10. Freshman Gianna DeSavario scored off of a corner kick pass from senior Mallory Miller.


The Wildcats held the Cougars scoreless through 89:59 minutes. Near the end of the second half, Washington State was awarded a penalty kick. Also as a result of the play, senior Kelly Nelson was carded for the foul and Arizona head coach Dan Tobias received a red card and was ejected.  


Carmen Anderson scored on the penalty kick to tie the game at the end of regulation.


Anderson notched the Cougars’ second goal of the game at 103:39 in the second overtime to give Washington State its first Pac-10 victory.


The Wildcats will return home to take on California on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., followed by Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at Murphey Field at Lohse Stadium.
