TUCSON, Ariz. -
Head coach Vicky Maes and the No. 28 Arizona women’s tennis team (15-8) will take on No. 35 Minnesota (16-8) in the first round of NCAA Regionals on Friday, May 11 at 10 a.m. ET in Chappel Hill, N.C.
The Wildcats had a successful regular season after posting an undefeated record at home and earning 14 victories over ranked teams.
Minnesota most recently advanced to the second round of the Big 10 Tournament before falling to No. 20 Illinois, 4-0. The Gophers are led by sophomore Natallia Pintusava, who was named to the All-Big 10 first team for the second-straight year. She joins teammate Magdalena Wiecha for the nation’s No. 52-ranked doubles team.
Arizona has not advanced past the first round of NCAA Regionals since 2006, but has done so 13 times since 1988. The Wildcats’ best NCAA finish occurred in 1993, when they made it to the semifinal round.
The winner of the match will advance to the second round and play either No. 7 North Carolina or the University of Richmond on Saturday, May 12 at 3 p.m. ET.
