Game 11 - Arizona 6, Southwest Texas State 2

TUCSON--Arizona used the long ball and three-hit pitching by Becky Lemke to beat Southwest Texas State, 6-2, and earn its 14th consecutive NCAA Regional championship and trip to the Women's College World Series.

UA hit four homers, led by two by All-Region Most Outstanding Player Toni Mascarenas, to extend its NCAA single-season team record to 121.

Arizona (61-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first with leadoff infield singles by Lauren Bauer and Nicole Giordano, a sacrifice by Mascarenas and a sacrifice fly by Leneah Manuma.

But the Bobcats answered quickly in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff walk by Kristen Zaleski, a double by Stephanie Hughes and an RBI single by Haley Gaddis to tie the game.

The Wildcats took the lead for good in the top of the fourth, as Mascarenas led off the frame with her 21st home run of the season. One out later, Mackenzie Vandergeest smacked a two-run shot to straight-away center field to push the Arizona lead to 4-1. It was Vandergeest's second home run of the regional and 19th of the season.

Southwest Texas State closed the gap to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI double off the top of the left field wall by Perri Yarbrough. But Lemke ended the Bobcat threat by striking out Sarah Youngdale with runners at second and third.

Once again, it was Mascarenas providing the offense for the Wildcats, as she hit her second solo home run of the game in the top of the fifth.

Arizona used another long ball to extend the lead to 6-2 in the top of the sixth. Sophomore second baseman Lisha Ribella connected on the first home run of her career, a solo shot, that chased SWTSU reliever Nicole Neuerburg.

Arizona will play the winner of NCAA Region 8 action in Talahassee, Fla., at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24. Florida State beat California in the first Sunday game to force a second game at Talahassee.

Lemke struck out a season-high 14 batters and improved her record to 18-2. Southwest Texas State, the Southland Conference champion, finished the year 54-12.
