TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 21 Arizona women's tennis team travels to the state of California this weekend for match-ups with Pac-10 foes. The Wildcats will face No. 3 Stanford on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PDT and No. 15 California on Saturday at Noon PDT. This marks the second time this season these schools have met. In early March, Arizona fell to Stanford, 2-5, and to California, 1-6. Since then Arizona has won three of its last five matches and is riding a two-game win streak.
Rankings:Arizona climbed up 13 spots in the polls following the wins against Washington and Washington State. Individually for the Cats, freshman Maja Mlakar is ranked No. 13 in singles play. She is followed by sophomore Debbie Larocque at No. 87 and freshman Dianne Hollands, No. 95. Mlakar and Larocque sit at No. 13 in the doubles rankings.
Last Week:Arizona upset Washington and Washington State last weekend improving Arizona's overall record to 10-8, 3-7 in the Pac-10. The Wildcats defeated the Washington Huskies 5-2. Arizona swept the doubles matches and won four of six singles matches in the victory. The following day the Washington State Cougars fell victim to the Wildcats attack as Arizona won, 4-3.
Streaks:Arizona has won two Pac-10 matches in a row for the first time all season. Wildcats Larocque, Hollands and freshman Marie-Pier Pouliot have 2 game winning streaks in singles play. In doubles, Larocque and Mlakar have teamed up to win three consecutive matches, including wins against the No. 8, 15 and 39 ranked doubles teams in the nation.
