Hill, Lyons Earn USBWA All-District Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball players Solomon Hill and Mark Lyons received all-district honors, as the United States Basketball Writers Association announced its all-district awards today.

The Wildcat duo were tabbed all-District IX selections in voting done by media members in the states of Arizona, Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. They were joined on the district squad by Jahii Carson, Arizona State; Allen Crabbe, California; Matthew Dellavedova, Saint Mary's; James Ennis, Long Beach State; Carrick Felix, Arizona State; Brock Motum, Washington State; Shabazz Muhammad, UCLA; and Kelly Olynyk, Gonzaga.

A 6-foot-7, 220-pound senior forward from Los Angeles, Calif., Hill ranks second on the Wildcats with a 13.6 points per game average, three-point field goals (48) and in steals (39), while ranking third in rebounding (5.2 rpg), assists (81) and three-point field goal percentage (.384). In 30 appearances (all starts), he is averaging 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game to go with a .453 field goal percentage. He has scored in double figures a team-leading 24 times, posted three 20-point games and collected one double-double.

It is the first time that Hill has earned all-district honors from the USBWA. Last year, he was an all-district pick by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

A 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior guard from Schenectady, N.Y., Lyons leads Arizona with a 14.9 points per game average, 56 three-point field goals and a .850 free throw percentage. In 30 appearances (all starts), he is averaging 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He has scored in double figures a team-leading 24 times, posted six 20-point games and five games with five or more assists.

It is the first time in his career that Lyons has earned all-district kudos. It marks the 48th time that an Arizona player has been honored by the USBWA.

Arizona (24-6, 12-6 Pac-12) will next be in action on Thursday, March 14, at the 2012 Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas. The fourth-seeded Wildcats face either No. 5 seed Colorado or No. 12 seed Oregon State at approximately 2:30 p.m. PST. The game will be televised nationally by the Pac-12 Networks.
