Swim and Dive Enter Seven in Day Two Finals

Atlanta, Ga. ?- The sixth-ranked Arizona men’s swimming and diving team qualified seven athletes for five events after the second round of prelims at the 2006 NCAA Championships to compete in finals action tonight beginning at 7 p.m. (EST).


Starting things off for the Wildcats was the 200 medley relay comprised of sophomore Nick Thoman, seniors Dave Rollins, Lyndon Ferns and Simon Burnett who finished second overall with a time of 1:25.86.


Sophomore Albert Subirats finished first in the prelims of the 100 butterfly, posting a new pool record and personal best time of 46.11. Ferns also qualified for the championship finals of the race, finishing sixth overall with a time of 46.49.


            Burnett and junior Adam Ritter qualified for the championship finals of the 200 freestyle as Burnett finished second overall (1:33.94) and Ritter was eighth (1:34.91). Freshman Nicolas Nilo finished 18th respectively with a time of 1:36.58.


            Rollins broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 52.68, finishing first overall, while sophomore Ivan Barnes qualified for the consolation finals of the race, finishing 11th with a time of 53.86.


            Subirats broke another school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 46.62, as he finished third overall. Thoman, who formerly held the school record, finished fourth overall with a time of 46.74.

200 Medley Relay: Thoman, Rollins, Ferns, Burnett

100 Fly: Subirats & Ferns

200 Free: Burnett & Ritter

100 Breast: Rollins & Barnes (consolation)

100 Back: Subirats & Thoman
