TUCSON, Ariz.- The third-ranked Arizona volleyball team was swept for the second night in a row, this time falling to the fifth-ranked USC Women of Troy in the Lyon Center, Saturday night. The Wildcats have lost consecutive matches for the first time since October 21 and 22, 1999. The loss drops Arizona's record to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10. Games scores were 30-25, 30-26, 30-22.
The Wildcats struggled all over the court for the second straight night as USC won all aspects of the match. The Women of Troy out-hit the Cats .450 to .305, out-dug them 36-32 and out-blocked them 3-2. Arizona could muster only 52 kills to USC's 61.
Individually, Jill Talbot led the Cats with 14 kills. Shannon Torregrosa and Lisa Rutledge chipped in with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Rutledge also led the Cats with eight digs. Dana Burkholder dished out 39 assists for Arizona in the loss.
The Wildcats will look to get back on the winning track against instate rival Arizona State next Friday, before heading off to the Bay Area for a Sunday-Monday match-up with Stanford and California.
