TUCSON - University of Arizona sophomore running back Ka'Deem Carey was named the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas Pac-12 Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
In Saturday's 52-17 win over Washington, Carey racked up a career-high 172 rushing yards and added a touchdown to pace a dominating offensive effort. Carey's career-best rushing yardage total was the sixth-best by a Pac-12 player this season and put him over 100 yards for the third-consecutive game and for the fifth time in seven contests this season. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder matched his career-high with 29 carries in the game.
The tone was set early and often as Carey pounded his way to 109 yards on 22 carries in the first half alone. Carey's two-yard rushing touchdown run in the fourth quarter was his sixth over the last three games and tied him with Trung Canidate (1999) with 11 rushing scores in a season, fourth-most in school history. Combined with one receiving touchdown, Carey's 12 total touchdowns this season are second-most for any Pac-12 player.
Carey's 172 yards were part of a 277-yard rushing day for the Wildcats, their most in a conference game since Nov. 7, 2009, against Washington State. Washington did not record a tackle for loss in the game, the first time a UA opponent failed to do so since Georgia Tech in the 1994 season opener.
On the season, Carey ranks No. 16 in the nation with 842 rushing yards, while his 1,064 yards from scrimmage are eighth-most nationally. He is averaging 120.3 rushing yards per game and is tied for the most 100-yard rushing games in the league this year.
The Wildcats welcome No. 10 USC to Arizona Stadium on Sat., Oct. 27 at 12:30 p.m. The game will air live on ABC/ESPN2. Tickets are available at the McKale Center Ticket office, by visiting ArizonaWildcats.com or by calling 520-621-2287 or 1-800-452-CATS.
