PALOS VERDES, Calif. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team shot a +33, 317 in the third and final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Wildcats finished the tournament in 12th place with a +83, 935.
“Today was just one of those days where we didn’t play very well,” head coach Greg Allen said. “All we can do now is start preparing for our tournament next week.”
Senior Whitney Welch and freshman Adriana Zwanck led the Wildcats in the individual category, each shooting a +21, 234, finishing in a tie for 38th place.
Arizona freshman Amanda Wilson shot a +10, 81 in round three and finished tied for 41st place. Wilson posted a tournament score of +22, 235.
Finishing in a tie for 49th place was Wildcat freshman Lauren Espinosa, who shot a +23, 236 in the tournament.
Freshman Sommer Scholl enjoyed her best round of the tournament today, shooting a +7, 78. Scholl earned a combined score of +31, 244 for the tournament and finished in 69th place.
After claiming the top spot in round one, Arizona State inched passed USC in round three by one stroke to win the tournament. USC shot a +18, 302 today and earned second place with a +41, 893, one stroke shy of tournament champion Arizona State. California shot a +56, 908 and finished in third place. Wake Forest and Oklahoma State placed as the 4th and 5th teams, respectively.
Individually Irene Cho of USC earned the top spot with a tournament score of +1, 214. Arizona State’s Jennifer Osborn chased Cho for the top spot, but fell one stroke short.
Next up for the Arizona women’s golf team is its own Wildcat Classic. The tournament runs Feb. 20-21 at the Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson.
