Arizona Women's Swimming and Diving Leads Southern California

The women's 400 medley relay and the 400 free relay teams place first

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 1 Arizona women's swimming and diving team traveled to Los Angeles today to face No. 5 Southern California. The Wildcats lead 115-89, and will wrap up the meet tomorrow with three meter diving. Arizona will then travel to UCLA to compete against the No. 11 women's swimming and diving team. The No. 4 ranked Arizona men will participate in the Southern California Invite tomorrow and will face No. 6 USC.

The Arizona women's 400 medley relay team and the 400 free relay team both placed first at today's event. The 400 medley relay team was made up of sophomore Beth Botsford, freshman Jessica Wagner, and juniors Erin Vogt and Jenny Vanker. The 400 free relay squad was compiled of freshman Kristen Brennan, senior Lindsey Farella and juniors Amy Bouta and Sarah Tolar. The 400 medley relay was won in a time of 3:42.70, while the 400 free relay was captured in a time of 3:26.12.

 
 

Individually for the Wildcat women Tolar took first place in the 200 free (1:49.45) and the 500 free (4:50.12). In addition to Tolar, Vanker, Vogt and Botsford also captured individual races today. Vanker placed first in the 50 free with a time of 23.93, Vogt won the 200 fly in a time of 2:01.02 and Botsford won the 200 back in a time of 1:58.48.

In women's one meter diving senior Adrian David placed second, scoring 264.60 points, while fellow senior Lindsay Berryman placed third with a total of 258.60 points. Junior Hazel Johnson also competed in the one meter event today, placing fifth with 196.00 points.

The Wildcat men's diving team competed in the one meter event today as well, freshman Alex Vollelunga placed second (281.00), sophomore Scott Koenig placed third (275.75) and freshman Josh Anderson finished fourth (272.30).

The Arizona women's diving team will face USC tomorrow in three meter diving along with UCLA in both one and three meter diving. The women's swim team will face UCLA and the men's team will compete against USC in the Southern California Invite.
