CORVALLIS, Ore.-Three Arizona golfers fired rounds of par or better Monday at Trysting Tree Golf Club to help the fourth-ranked Wildcats post a first-round team total of 1-over-par 289. The Wildcat women's golf team sits in second place at the Oregon State Invitational, trailing tournament leader California by three strokes.

Junior Anne Lee shot a new career-low round of 1-under-par 71 to head the Arizona charge. The Southern California native's previous single round best of 72 came last year at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson and at the 2001 NCAA West Regional, also held at Trysting Tree Golf Club. Lee's 71 places her in a tie for fourth place at the Oregon State Invitational.

In 2000, the Wildcats posted rounds of 287, 292 and 289 at Trysting Tree to claim the NCAA West Regional crown in resounding fashion with a 20-stroke victory.

Sharing a tie for seventh place are sophomore Lorena Ochoa and junior Julia Kraschinski, who each carded rounds of even-par 72. Ochoa, the nation's top-ranked golfer, is fresh off a victory last month at the NCAA Fall Preview. Kraschinski, a junior from Whitianga, New Zealand, posted her best round since the 2000 NCAA Championships where she finished in second place.

Also scoring for Arizona was junior Laura Myerscough who sits tied for 16th place after a first-round of 2-over-par 74. Cathie Williamson, the Wildcats' lone playing senior, is tied for 66th place at 8-over-par.

Stanford's Kim Kouwabunpat owns the individual lead after an opening round of 5-under-par 67, while No. 24 California placed five golfers in the top-25 after day one to seize the team lead at 2-under-par 286.

Action continues at Trysting Tree Golf Club with Tuesday's second round beginning at 8:30 a.m. Arizona is seeking its first team championship of the 2001-02 campaign and the team's second individual medalist honors.
