No. 43 Arizona Heads to Los Angeles, Calif., for NCAA Championships

TUCSON, Ariz., ?- The No. 43 Arizona men’s tennis team will face No. 23 Colorado in the first round of the NCAA Championships. Also competing in Los Angeles are the host team 10th-seeded UCLA and Stony Brook. This selection into the NCAA Regional marks the fourth time in six years the Wildcats have made it to the NCAA Tournament.


In the first round of the competition, Arizona will face the No. 23 Colorado. This will be the fifth dual match in the two schools’ history. The Wildcats are undefeated in the series. Arizona and Colorado faced four common opponents this season, Montana State, New Mexico, Portland and Boise State. Arizona’s only loss in those matches came against Boise State. Colorado defeated all four teams.


In the fall season, the Wildcats faced Buffalo players four times, going 2-2. Jason Labrosse was able to defeat Geoffrey Chizever twice once at the Denver Fall Championships and again at the Balloon Fiesta Classic. Colorado’s Eric Molnar took down two Wildcats, Bruno Alcala at the Crimson Tide Invitational and then Daniel Andrus at the Denver Fall Championships. Wildcat pair, Andrus and Francois VanderMerwe, recorded a win over the Buffalo duo of Peter Bjork and Charlie Yemm.


Leading the way for the Seminoles is No. 51-ranked Eric Molnar. Molnar has earned a 25-16 overall record. Playing No. 1 doubles for Colorado is the team of Molnar and Marko Bundalo. The tandem has earned a 10-12 overall record. The Buffaloes finished the season with a 4-3 win over No. 6 Texas Tech in the Big-12 Championships before falling to No. 2 Texas.
