#41 James Alford 6’1 230 Linebacker Fr.

Alford enrolled in the spring and participated in spring practice with the Wildcats as well as summer conditioning. He originally signed with West Virginia in 2003 but was gray shirted. To be gray shirted means that Alford didn’t attend class or practice at West Virginia. Alford comes from New Orleans, Louisiana where he was a SuperPrep  Louisiana Top 45 honors in 2003. He had 146 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one sack as a junior. Alford also played safety as a sophomore earning All-District honors. Alford looks to provide depth to the linebacker core and get on the field participating with the special teams.

#46 Yaniv Barnett 6’3 285 Nose Tackle Fr.

One of many incoming freshman from Texas, Barnett will get a strong look for playing time from the defensive coaching staff. Barnett received SuperPrep All-Southwest honors as the #40 prospect in Texas, Texas Sports Writer’s Association 5A All-State first-team honors, Second-team All-State 5A by the Associated Press, San Antonio Express-News Defensive Player of the year, and he made the Austin American Statesman Fab 50 list. Barnett also earned 5A TexasFootball.com first-team All-State selection, Max Emfinger Mid-America 200 and National Top 300 honors. Barnett was three time All-District defensive lineman as well as two-time All-Area. He had 129 tackles in helping the Buffalos to a 13-2 record in 2003. Barnett brings an impressive resume to fall camp and hopes to impress the coaching staff enough to get immediate playing time.

#98 Chris Kolone 6’4 280 Defensive Tackle Fr.

Kolone comes from Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego, California. He was a three-year varsity starter that earned Second-team Union-Tribune All-San Diego section honors as a defensive lineman in 2003. He also received honors as SuperPrep All-Farwest Top 100 California offensive line prospect as well as PrepStar All-West defensive line. Kolone played his first two years of high school football in Oahu, Hawaii where he spent much of his youth. Kolone looks to provide depth behind Carlos Williams, Paul Phillip, and Brad Brittain this season.

#45 Brandon Lopez 6’2 210 Linebacker Fr.

The only Tucson-area prospect to sign with the Wildcats in 2004, Lopez was a significant playmaker for Cienega high school. A PrepStar postseason All-West selection as well as All-Area honors from the Tucson Citizen and Arizona Daily Star. Lopez was Cienega high school featured halfback his senior year and played linebacker as well. Lopez cumulated 1,509 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior in 2003. His junior year he rushed for 1,687 and 17 touchdowns as well as cumulating 98 tackles on defense. Lopez will most likely provide depth for the linebacker core this season.

#33 Ronnie Palmer 6’3 217 Linebacker Fr.

Palmer comes from Spring, Texas where he played linebacker and quarterback during his prep career. Palmer earned SuperPrep All-Southwest honors, was listed as the #32 prospect in Texas, Rivals 100 #18 linebacker prospect, Insiders.com #44 linebacker prospect, Houston Chronicle Top 100,  earned Fort Worth Star-Telegram State 100 honors, and Max Emfinger National Top 100 honors. During his junior year he recorded 73 tackles and 70 tackles as a senior. Earned All-District First-Team honors both his junior and senior year as well as Co-Defensive player of the year (2003) in District 15-5A. Palmer played quarterback his sophomore year and lettered in track for three years. He was a national honor society member as well as earning Football All-Academic Team honors. Palmer chose Arizona over Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, LSU, and many other schools across the nation. Ultimately his decision was based on the genuine recruiting approach and coaching style of Coach Stoops and Coach Mark Stoops. Palmer will get a real strong look this fall camp at linebacker and could challenge the veteran linebacker unit for playing time.

#32 Randy Sims 5’11 225 Linebacker Jr.

Sims is a mid-year transfer from San Francisco City College where he was listed as Collegefootballnews.com #19 linebacker prospect. Sims earned All-NorCal Conference honors in 2003 for a 12-0 State JUCO Champions. Sims went to Riordan high school in San Francisco where he lettered in football for three years and track for two years. Sims got a jump-start this spring and has made strides since arriving to Arizona. Sims looks to be the starting middle linebacker for the Wildcats but there will be competition for the spot. Look out for #32 to be around the football a lot and in the face of opposing offenses.

#99 Chris Wilson  6’5 240 Defensive End Fr.

The tall eighteen year old comes from San Clemente High School out of San Clemente, California. Wilson played both tight end and defensive end for the Tritons earning SuperPrep All-Farwest honors as a California Top 130 prospect and PrepStar All-West selection as an offensive prospect. He earned South Coast League Second-Team offensive honors as well. Wilson was a two-year letterman and a team captain his senior year and most likely will be red shirted while watching the current rotation of defensive ends Andre Torrey, Marcus Smith, Copeland Bryan, and Lionel Dotson.
