Arizona interim head coach Russ Pennell
"I was real excited about the way we won and us getting the opportunity to play some of the players we did. I have found out that in every season you're going to need some of those guys on the bench and they're going to have to know what to do."
"Overall I thought our effort was good. I didn't think our slow start had anything to do with anything we did, it was more about what Loyola was doing."
On Zane Johnson...
"I thought he shot real well. I told you guys all he needed was some more time on the court and to get some more shots and that's what he got tonight. He also showed that he's more than just an outside shooter. He showed he can play defense and that's what we need." "He's made playing defense more important because he knew he wouldn't play, if he didn't."
On Zane coming off the bench opposed to starting...
"If he can give us 17 points coming off the bench, then I'm going to continue to bring him off the bench."
On the defensive effort...
"I think that was the best defense we've played all season. We've been working hard on our rotation and we did well with that, which led to some easy baskets."
On some reserves...
"I love Kyle Fogg, his energy and the way he bounces around. I thought he did a nice job tonight."
"Brendon Lavender gave us some good minutes. I was happy for him. He had struggled making the transition from being a top prospect, but I told him that that is what every freshman in the country goes through."
On whether the team is ready for it's tough upcoming schedule...
"I have no idea, but that's what we'll find out. Our schedule takes an up turn in the coming weeks and it's going to be a real tell tale sign on how we do, but that won't make or break our season."
Arizona Player Quotes
Junior Forward Jordan Hill
On the 3 juniors being able to get rested on the bench due to the blow out win:
"It's not that big of a deal because we can all play a 40 minute game, we all have the endurance to go the full 40, but it did help having people coming off the bench ready to play. That's what Zane (Johnson) did tonight, and Kyle Fogg too. That's what we need is everyone coming off the bench playing like that. I'm just going out there to play basketball. It helped that we dominated the other team so early so we could get some rest. It especially helped me with my back problems. I was able to go out and get some ice on it."
On his five double doubles this season:
"I try to fight for every rebound out there; I try to snatch the rebounds from my opponent's hands. I know I can't get every one, but that doesn't stop me from trying. I just try to be a beast out there."
"We did a real good job of moving the ball around tonight. If we continue doing that we'll find open looks, like the one's Zane got. Zane took advantage of all his open looks."
Sophomore Guard Zane Johnson
"I felt real good. My shots were falling at the end. I went through a cold streak at the beginning; I guess I'm not use to being that wide open. I think this is really good for my confidence. This is what I expect out of myself. I never want to go out there and play bad. I just go out there and let the game come to me."
"I think I've improved defensively. I've spent a lot of time improving my strength and conditioning. Defense gets you on the floor, so I think my defensive improvements got me the playing time I was lacking before."
