A Walk-Off Win for UA on Senior Day

TUCSON--Courney Fossatti singled over third base to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh and give Arizona a 4-3 victory over Washington.

A pitcher's duel between Alicia Hollowell (26-7) and Washington's Ashley Boek (15-12), both teams were scoreless until the fifth inning. Hollowell struck out 17 en route to the victory.

No. 2 Arizona closed out its home season at 37-9 overall and 10-7) in Pac-10 play. No. 22 Washington dropped to 29-19, 8-10.

Washington threatened in the top of the first, loading the bases without a hit. With two outs, Kristen Rivera walked, Kathy Fiske struck out but reached on a wild pitch and Aimee Minor was hit by a pitch by Hollowell. Sarah Hyatt struck out to end the inning.

Both teams only had two hits through four and a half innings, until Caitlin Lowe and Autumn Champion hit one-out infield singles in the bottom of the fifth. Kristie Fox, UA's RBI leader, came through with another one, singling to right center to score Lowe and give the Cats a 1-0 lead.

After Jackie Coburn walked, Jennifer Martinez singled off pitcher Boek's glove to drive in Champion, and then Crystal Farley drew a walk to make it 3-0.

Washington tagged Hollowell in the next at bat, with Fiske leading off the sixth with a home run to left center to cut the lead to 3-1. Minor drew a walk and Hyatt singled. Hollowell struck out Lauren Greer and got Caitlin Noble to ground to short, and then struck out Jacki Hansen to stop the rally.

Washington's Kristen Rivera blasted a home run to left with Dominique Lastrapes on base in the top of the seventh to tie the game 3-3.

The winning run was set up by a single by Jackie Coburn, a walk, a fielder's choice and another walk before Fossatti's hit, scoring Allyson Von Liechtenstein. The walk-off victory was Arizona's second of the season.
