Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach Joan Bonvicini

“I have no complaints. I thought we got better the second half. The first half, we were a little sloppy and had more turnovers.”

On the offense

“It opened us up a lot, but we still need a lot of work.”

On the team

“The whole bench did a really nice job. Linda Pace had a career-high today.”

On shooting

“We had some nice shots all around, I’m happy with 56 percent, but we also need to work on shooting better from the three point line.”

On the tempo

“We want a forced tempo. We are fairly quick. I give a lot of credit to Cal Poly for coming in here today, they had nothing to gain and nothing to lose.”

On today’s game compared to last week’s scrimmage

“I think we got more settled back into routine. We got some of the emotions out last week and we definitely played a lot better today.”

On the depth of the bench

“Our bench is huge. When you play an up-tempo game, it allows you to play more people, which helps keep our starters out of foul trouble.”

On the injury to Amina Njonkou

Amina will be out for a few weeks. She has a stress fracture. She is tough; she didn’t even tell anyone that her foot was bothering her until the other day when she showed the trainer. She may have a small surgery, and will be out 2-4 weeks. She’s a good kid and has a lot of support around her.”

Sophomore forward Ch?© Oh

“We got out there and had some great passes. We were doing the quarterback thing with players like Ashley (Whisonant) playing wide receiver.”

“They’re a good team. Both of the teams got frustrated. We just have to play tough.”

“I’m happy with our team’s performance today. We have really stepped it up from the scrimmage. Linda Pace played forward when she usually plays guard and she stepped it up big time.”

“We’re pretty deep this year. It shows in the stats. We can go nine or 10 deep. Our whole bench can contribute to the game.”

Sophomore guard Ashley Whisonant

“We had a lot of fast breaks this game. That’s the kind of team we’re going to be this year.”

“We knew coming in that we were going to be playing a very athletic team. We tried to make a statement from the beginning. We like to play these fast-paced games.”

“We want to take good shots. We need to keep getting a decent shooting percentage.”

Senior guard Natalie Jones

“We are taking it one step at a time. We plan our strategy for the upcoming game and try not to look too far ahead.”

“We had a very different pre-game today. We got back into our routine. The scrimmage was very emotional. It was time to show our freshmen the normal routine and time to get down to business.”
