Women's Golf Finishes Second at Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

OAHU, Hawaii ?- The women’s golf team claimed second place at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, only two strokes behind tournament winner Texas A&M University.  The Wildcats finished with a total score of 899 (+35) after 54 holes.  Texas A&M shot a tournament best 295 in the final round to claim the victory.


The Wildcats were led by junior Alison Walshe who finished in fourth after carding consistent scores of 74 through each round.  The Westford, Mass., product totaled a six-over par 222, finishing six strokes behind the individual champion, Gerina Mendoza from the University of Texas-El Paso.


Close behind Walshe was sophomore Amanda Wilson, who took fifth place, her highest finish of the season.  The Hilo, Hawaii native carded a four-over par 76 in the final round to bring her tournament total to 223 (+7).  Junior Mary Jacobs rounded out the trio of Wildcats to finish in the top-10, with a total score of 226 (+10) to tie for ninth.  Jacobs carded a team-low 71 (-1) in the final round to garner her third top-10 finish.


Sophomore Adriana Zwanck tied for 23rd after carding a five-over par 77 in the final round, bringing her three round total to 233 (+17)


Freshman Brittany Benvenuto tied for 63rd with a total score of 247 (+31) after 54 holes of play.


Competing as an individual for the Wildcats was freshman Emily Mason, who tied for 34th with a score of 238 (+22).


The Wildcats will next be in action at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., March 30-April 1.
