TUCSON, Ariz. - Twelve first-place finishes were not enough to get the job done Friday, as the Arizona swimmers and divers could not pull through against USC. The men and women lost 181.5-109.5 and155-134 respectively.

The Wildcats did well in the relays, taking three out of the four events. The women won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:36.96, and later swam to a 1:34.52 victory in the 200 free relay. The men concluded the dual with their victory in the 200 free relay, clocking in at 1:21.44.

The women swimmers were led by freshman Bonnie Brandon, junior Margo Geer, and senior Lauren Smart. Brandon won the 200 back with a time of 1:56.35, and later took the 400 IM in 4:19.10. Geer continued her dominance in the freestyle sprints, taking both the 50 free and 100 free. She recorded times of 22.97 in the 50 free and 49.17 in the 100 free. Smart swam to a 54.30 victory in the 100 back and a 54.32 win in the 100 fly.

Senior Carl Mickelson led the way for the men; recording two individual first place finishes. He won the 200 breast with a time of 1:58.07, and took the 400 IM in 4:03.00. The other individual first place finisher for the men was diver Rafael Quintero, who scored a 329.85 in the 3m dive.

The women will have a quick turnaround as they face UCLA this Saturday, Nov. 10 at 12:00 p.m. PT. Both teams will then return to Tucson for the Arizona Diving Invite on Nov. 16.
