TUCSON - The No. 9/10 Arizona Wildcat women's golf team will open the spring season with the hosting of the Wildcat Invitational. Held at The Golf Club at Vistoso, competition will take place Mon.-Tues., Feb. 7-8. Tee time is set for 8 a.m. MT both days.
Along with the No. 9/10 Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State, No. 4/7 California, No. -/23 UC-Davis, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, No. 23/30 Oklahoma State, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State and No. -/27 Washington.
In the most recent NGCA poll, Arizona sits at No. 9 and is one of five Pac-10 schools list in the top 25 with USC at No. 3, UCLA at No. 4, California at No. 7 and Oregon at No. 24. In the most recent version of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, the Wildcats sit at No. 10 and are one of six Pac-10 schools listed in the top 30 with USC at No. 2, UCLA at No. 3, California at No. 7, Washington at No. 27 and Oregon at No. 29. Individually, junior Margarita Ramos ranks No. 37 in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll.
A tee-time line-up decision will be made by head coach Laura Ianello. Senior Alejandra Llaneza, juniors Isabelle Boineau, Nikki Koller, and Margarita Ramos, sophomores Kyndall Ardoin and Sherlyn Popelka, and freshman Haley Andreas all logged rounds during the fall season and could potentially play in the home tournament.
Arizona welcomes back senior Llaneza, juniors Boineau, Koller and Ramos and sophomores Ardoin and Popelka from the 2009-10 squad that won the Pac-10 and NCAA West Regional titles and ended the season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
