No. 2 Arizona Set for Double Dip with Creighton

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The second-ranked Arizona softball team (14-3) will conclude its season-long homestand with a doubleheader with Creighton (8-1) on Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m.


The Wildcats are riding a modest four-game winning streak, having won 10 of their last 11 games.


This past weekend against Missouri, Caitlin Lowe led Arizona with a .700 (7-for-10) batting average, eight runs scored and nine stolen bases.  She enters the doubleheader hitting .509 on the year with 22 stolen bases and 21 run scored.


Fellow seniors Chelsie Mesa and Kristie Fox have been equally dominant at the plate this year.  Mesa is in the midst of a career-high 14-game hitting streak and is batting .462 with 13 RBI, 13 runs scored and eight stolen bases.  The two-time All-American Fox is hitting .375 with five home runs and 23 RBI.


UA won two of its three games against Mizzou in walk-off fashion, beginning with Callista Balko’s RBI single on Friday in a 5-4 victory.  With the game tied 7-7 in the seventh inning on Sunday, Jenae Leles connected for her third home run of 2007 to cap off the weekend series sweep.


In the circle, Taryne Mowatt (9-3) pitched all 21 innings and earned three victories while limiting the Tiger hitters to a .228 batting average.


Following their two games against Creighton, the Wildcats will hit the road for two weeks.  UA will travel to Baylor this weekend for a three-game set against the Bears.  The series will be the Wildcats’ first true road games of 2007.


On Wednesday, Arizona’s 2006 national championship team will be honored by the Arizona State House of Representatives.
