????????????TUCSON, Ariz. ?C?Junior right-hander?Preston Guilmet, the 2007 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year and an All-America selection, and senior C.J. Ziegler have been named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason first-team All-Americans, the organization announced on Wednesday. The preseason honor is the first for both players in the respective careers.

????????????Guilmet, who became UAˇ?s first conference pitcher of the year since 1989 last season, burst on the national map with an outstanding sophomore year. The right-hander went 12-2 with a 1.87 ERA and 146 strikeouts in 135 innings pitched. He finished tied for fourth nationally in total strikeouts, tied for seventh in victories and 10th?in ERA.

Guilmet tossed five complete games in 2007, including two shutouts, and was named the conference pitcher of the week a school record four times and the national player of the week three times.

Paced by Guilmetˇ?s dominance on the mound, the Arizona pitching staff recorded the lowest team ERA in 30 years in Tucson, the fewest home runs allowed in 34 years, the second-most strikeouts in school history and the lowest opponent batting average in 32 seasons.

Ziegler, who played in his first season at Arizona after transferring from Pima Community College, returns to the Wildcat lineup as the teamˇ?s leading hitter. The only UA player to start all 59 games in 2007, he batted .355 and led the team with 23 doubles, 59 runs scored and 13 home runs. He finished second on the club to departed senior Bill Rhinehart with 63 RBI.

Arizona will open its 2008 season on February 22 against the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
