TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona’s men’s golf team will make the short trip from Tempe, Ariz. to Scottsdale, Ariz. to compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 8th. The tournament is a two-day, twenty-four-team event.
The Wyoming Cowboys are the host-school for the tournament, which will be played at the north course at the Talking Stick Golf Club, a par-70, 7,133-yard course. The first round will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. PT with the second round following immediately after the conclusion of the first round. The final eighteen holes will take place on the second day with another shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. PT.
The twenty-four-team field is made up of Wyoming, Arizona, Air Force, Gonzaga, Colorado, Old Dominion, Northern Colorado, Weber State, UC Santa Barbara, Nevada, Boise State, Santa Clara, Kansas State, Colorado State, UTEP, UC Northridge, Utah State, Wichita State, Utah, Idaho, UC Riverside, Hawaii, Tulsa and St. Mary’s College.
Last year, the Wildcats of Kansas State won the Wyoming Cowboy Classic with a score of 826 (-14). Kansas State’s Ben Juffer also took the individual victory by posting a 198 (-12) for the tournament. Arizona finished in sixth place as a team last year at the Cowboy Classic, with Brenden Redfern finishing in seventh place with a score of 203 (-7). Tucker Wadkins and Juan Pablo Hernandez also finished in the top-20. Wadkins finished in a tie for 11th and Hernandez finished in a tie for 17th.
Just yesterday, the Wildcats finished competing in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. Arizona finished in ninth place as a team with a score of 865. Juan Pablo Hernandez led the Wildcats with a score of 211 (-2) and finished in a tie for ninth place. Erik Oja also finished in a tie for 18th place with a score of 213 (E).
