TUCSON – The Arizona Wildcats will play at Utah State in the opening round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Thurs., March 17, at the Aggies’ Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. MT.

The Wildcats are making their first appearance in the Women’s NIT since the 2000-01 season and just their third appearance in school history. Arizona holds a 4-1 record in WNIT games including wins against Pepperdine, Western Kentucky, Arkansas and Northwestern. In WNIT action, UA is 1-0 at home (Pepperdine, 3/15/01, 85-65), 0-1 on the road (at New Mexico, 3/17/01, 75-62) and 3-0 on a neutral floor.

The Arizona Wildcats and the Utah State Aggies will meet for the 12th time on Thursday. The Aggies hold a 7-4 edge over the Wildcats but Arizona has won the last three meetings (‘84, ‘85, ‘86). In the last contest between the two teams, during the 1985-86 season, Arizona won, 75-41, at Utah State.

The Arizona Wildcats are 21-11 overall on the season. Arizona has three players averaging in double figures: senior forward Ify Ibekwe (16.1), sophomore guard Davellyn Whyte (15.6) and senior forward Soana Lucet (12.2). Ibekwe leads Arizona at the glass with 9.9 rebounds per game. Junior guard Shanita Arnold hands out 4.9 assists per game.

The Utah State Aggies are 17-14 overall on the season. USU has two players averaging in double figures: junior forward Ashlee Brown (15.3) and sophomore forward Devyn Christensen (11.5). Brown leads Utah State at the glass with 8.6 rebounds per game. Senior guard Alice Coddington hands out 4.3 assists per game.
