Match Data: ??Arizona will host a doubleheader on Saturday beginning with a match against the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona followed by an afternoon tilt with Scottsdale CC.

The Rankings: ??Arizona begins the season unranked as a teamˇ?Claudio Christen and Bruno Alcala are currently ranked No. 7 in terms of doubles partnersˇ?Christen is ranked No. 37 as a singles player.

?

Arizona Head Coach Tad Berkowitzˇ? will begin his third season at the helm for the Wildcats . He enters the 2007-08 season with a record of 17-26.? Berkowitz joined the program in 2004?and has held numerous national and collegiate coaching positions. He was promoted to the head coaching position in the spring of 2005 after serving as hall-of-famer Bill Wright's assistant.? Berkowitz, 33, was a top collegiate player for the universities of Kentucky and New Mexico, respectively.? Berkowitz began his coaching career in 1999?as an assistant coach at Alabama for three seasons. In his final year he helped the Crimson Tide earn a No. 18 national ranking and a berth in the NCAA Championships.? He is assisted by Tom Lloyd, who is in his second year in that capacity.

Scouting the ˇ®Jacks: ?Saturdayˇ?s match will be the season opener for NAU. They are coached by Dean Owen. Last year the team finished with an 8-14 record.

The Series with Northern Arizona: ?The Wildcats are 21-1 all time vs. their in-state rival. The Lumberjacks lone victory came in 1980.? Last year the Cats beat the Jacks by a score of 6-1.?They were led by the play of Peter Zimmer and Claudio Christen. ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Returnees: ?The Cats will be led by their three senior leaders, Claudio Christen, Bruno Alcala and Nate Cochrane throughout the season.? Christen, ranked No. 37 in the ITA polls, will look use a successful season as momentum going into the spring schedule.

Last Time Out:? ?The Wildcats opened their season Friday with a resounding?7-0 over the Gonzaga Bulldogs.? Freshman Jay Goldman and Ravid Hazi both had strong days for Arizona. Goldman won his double match with Claudio Christen; 8-2, then defeated Stefan Feddersen; 6-0, 6-1. Hazi beat Charles Adams; 6-0, 6-0.

New Faces in the Crowd: ?Arizona has four ˇ®newbiesˇ? that will be making their debut as Cats on Friday. Among the bunch is freshman Jay Goldman, a five-star recruit out of Worcester, Mass., who is expected to make an immediate impact. Another newcomer is sophomore Pat Metham, a transfer who grew up Wellington, New Zealand.

Recapping Last Year: ?The Cats finished last season with a record of 5-17 overall.? Individually they were led by junior Claudio Christen who was at times ranked as high as No. 83. As a team, Arizona was ranked in nine of the weekly polls. They fluctuated from as high as No.48 to No. 75.

Some New (Volunteer) Coaching Help: ?This year Arizona is pleased to have ATP all-pro Taylor Dent as a volunteer assistant coach throughout the season.? Dent, who was ranked as the No. 21 player in the world on August 8th 2005, suffered a back injury which caused him to miss most of the past seasons. After having successful surgery, Dent was contacted by good friend and former coach Tom Lloyd, now an assistant with Arizona, who extended the coaching invitation.? Dent, while working on rehabbing his back, will coach the Wildcats on specific and individual techniques. Dent is known as an aggressive serve-and-volleyer with one of the biggest serves on the tour, tying Andy Roddick for the record of fastest serve at 155 mph.

Always Tough Pac-10 Schedule: ?Playing in the Pac-10 means always facing the best of the best and this year is certainly no different.? In the ITA Preseason rankings, the Pac-10 has six teams ranked in the top 45 led by USC at No. 6 and UCLA at No. 9. For their non-conference opponents, Rice, Texas A&M CC, San Diego State and BYU are ranked as well.

Early Home Action: ?The Wildcats will look to use their early home schedule to jump out and pick up wins.? Seven of Arizonaˇ?s nine first matches will be played in Tucson.

Fall Season: ?The Cats participated in five fall tournaments during the fall semester...In the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, Claudio Christen and Bruno Alcala were bale to win the doubles championshipˇ?At the Aggie Fall Invitational in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Ravid Hazi advanced to the finals before falling to champion Jim Brouleau of New Mexico Stateˇ?Christen competed in the prestigious Polo All American Championship in Tulsa, OK and won four matches before finally falling to No. 17 Adam Holmstrom of Denverˇ?Peter Zimmer competed in three fall events and posted a record of 5-3.
