Provo, Utah (Sept. 28) -- Shutout for the first time this season, the University of Arizona women's soccer team (3-2-1) fell, 2-0, to Brigham Young (5-2-1) in Provo on Friday night. The loss ended a four-game unbeaten streak for the Cats.
The two teams played scoreless for the first 28 minutes of the match, until BYU's Aydre Soffe notched an unassisted goal in the 29th minute. The Cougars iced the win with a penalty kick just five minutes into the second half, then both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the game.
BYU out-shot Arizona, 20-7, and held the Wildcats to a mere two shots on-goal. Freshman forward Candice Wilks had a pair of shots for the Cats, as did sophomore midfielder Sierra Cristiano. Cristiano and senior forward Kristi Loro?a had the only two shots on-goal for the UA.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Monti played all 90 minutes in the nets for Arizona, collecting seven saves. Jennifer Waldron got the shutout for BYU, notching two saves.
In the midst of a six-game road swing, Arizona will take on Utah on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. MDT.
