TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona's head swimming coach Frank Busch has been named an assistant coach that will serve on the staff of the women's US Olympic team at the 28th summer games in Athens, Greece, in August.

Busch, the 2004 NCAA and Pac-10 Women's Coach of the Year, was selected by the US Olympic team head coach Mark Schubert to help represent the United States at the summer games in Europe. Busch will join Arizona and USA softball head coach Mike Candrea and a host of current and former student-athletes with Arizona ties in Athens next month.

"This is a great honor, not only for Frank, but for the University of Arizona as well," athletic director Jim Livengood said. "I personally believe Frank to be the top coach in the nation and he will serve the United States, Arizona and the Tucson community well in Athens."

While the Olympic coaching position is a first for Busch, he is no stranger to international swimming. Named the 1998 US Olympic Committee and USA Swimming Coach of the Year, he served as the head coach for the United States at the 1997 Pan-Pacific Games, as well as on the coaching staffs of the 1999 Pan-Pacific team, the World University Games in 1993 and at the World Championships in 1998 and 2003.

A media gathering with Busch, Livengood and senior associate athletic director Rocky LaRose is scheduled for 2 pm on Thursday, July 15, in the Lohse Room on the third floor of McKale Center.
