TUCSON , Ariz. - The University of Arizona menˇ?s golf program once again will be well represented when the United States Golf Association hosts the 2007 United States Open Championship, as three former Wildcats have qualified for the 156-man field.? One of those players qualified Monday in a sectional qualifier, while two others earned exemptions.

Ricky Barnes, Jim Furyk and Rory Sabbatini will all compete for the 107th U.S. Open Championship, June 14-17, at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

?

Barnes, who resides in Scottsdale, Ariz. earned his spot in the field with third-place finish at the Purchase, N.Y., sectional qualifier at Century Country Club after shooting a 72-69--ˇ?141.? The 2002 U.S. Amateur champion, Barnes was a four-time All-American while at Arizona and 2003 co-national player of the year.? This will be his fourth career U.S. Open appearance.

Furyk, a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., earned an exemption into the 2007 field as a former champion.? Included in his 12 PGA Tour wins is the 2003 U.S. Open Championship to go with the 2006 Wachovia Championship.? Furyk currently ranks eighth on the PGA Tour with a 69.90 scoring average and second in driving accuracy percentage (75.28%).? He was a member of Arizonaˇ?s 1992 national championship team and a three-time All-American as well.

Sabbatini, a resident of Southlake, Texas, earned an exemption into the 2007 field by ranking in the top 30 on the 2006 PGA Tour money list.? Since turning professional in 1999, Sabbatini has won four PGA Tour events, including the 2007 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.? Currently, Sabbatini ranks 10th on the PGA Tourˇ?s scoring average list at 70.00 strokes and fifth on the 2007 money list.? He garnered All-America accolades for the Wildcats in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

Eight other players with University of Arizona ties missed the cut in sectional qualifiers.? Included in that group is current Wildcat golfer Brian Prouty , who shot a 73-77ˇ?150 at the sectional qualifier at the OSU Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

Oakmont Country Club is a par-70, 7,230-yard layout.? The course has hosted the U.S. Open seven previous times with the last coming in 1994.
