WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona pitcher and right fielder Taryne Mowatt earned her first Pacific-10 Player of the Week honors for her performance this past weekend against Arizona State.  Mowatt had been named the Conference’s Pitcher of the Week twice this year, and becomes the first player since 2002 to receive player and pitcher honors in the same season.

“It is certainly an honor to be named the Conference’s Player of the Week.  It’s extra special because it says that I was able to help our team both offensively and defensively,” Mowatt said.  “Most importantly, I’m glad that we were able to come out, as a group, and battle back with a win on Saturday after a tough loss the day before.”

In the circle, Mowatt shut out the Sun Devils in Saturday’s 3-0 Wildcat victory.  She pitched to just three batters over the minimum, striking out 11, and did not allow an ASU player to get past first base.

The sophomore from Corona, Calif., was equally dominant at the plate, hitting .429 (3-for-7) on the weekend, as she extended her team-leading and career-high hit streak to six games.  In Saturday’s victory, she scored two of the team’s three runs, including one on her second career home run.

Arizona next plays on Friday, April 24 at Stanford.  The contest will be televised by Fox Sports Net and can be watched via tape delay at 1 p.m. (MST/PDT) on Sunday.
