The Tournament: No. 3 Arizona (15-0) hosts the Wildcat Invitational, Feb. 23 through Feb. 25 at Hillenbrand Stadium. The round-robin tournament includes the season opener for Connecticut, Drake University (1-4), Florida (7-3), Southern Utah (4-6) and McNeese State (5-4).

Last Time The Cats Played
Arizona won the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic on Feb. 16 through 18 at Hillenbrand Stadium. The Wildcats scored 66 runs in five games over the weekend, with a .438 team batting average, including 13 home runs, 3 grand slams and 64 RBI. On the mound, the Cats pitching staff combined for a 0.50 ERA , allowing only 10 hits. Arizona started the weekend with a 29-0 win over Bowling Green in five innings with 5 home runs on 19 hits, including a combined-no hitter by senior pitchers Becky Lemke and Teresa Demeter. Also on Friday, the Cats beat Oklahoma State 7-0. Freshman Mackenzie Vandergeest went 4-4 with three singles and a three-run home run. On Saturday, the Wildcats came up with wins over Kentucky (12-1) and New Mexico State (9-1). It was only the second and third time this season that a team has scored on the Cats. Freshman Leneah Manuma went 3-4 at the plate, hit two home runs, scored two runs and had 5 RBI against Kentucky while senior Nicole Giordano went 3-3 at the No. 2 spot in the lineup with senior Lauren Bauer and Manuma each hitting home runs against New Mexico State. On Sunday, Vandergeest was 2-2 from the plate with a home run and 6 RBI in the Cats 9-0 win over Pacific.

17- Run Inning
In the fourth inning of the Bowling Green State game, the Cats sent 22 to the plate where they produced three home runs, two grand slams, four singles, one double and 10 walks, scoring 17 runs. The team combined for 16 RBI, with Giordano having seven of those.

Bangin' Them Silly
In 15 games, the Wildcats have hit 38 home runs. In 68 games in 2000, the team hit 66. Senior Toni Mascarenas (9) and Manuma (7) and Vandergeest (6) lead the way, but seven other Wildcats have hit homers. The school and NCAA record is 100 by the 1995. The Cats hit 6 home runs against Bowling Green, which is tied for the No. 2 spot in NCAA history. 10 times Arizona has had multiple homers in a game, 3 times they've hit 5 or more and one time more than 5.

Bauer, who hit in the No. 2 or 3 spot much of her first three years, is entrenched as the leadoff hitter. She is hitting .471, has scored 27 runs and is 13-13 in stolen bases... Vandergeest appears to have a firm grip on the starting right field job, and also catches when freshman pitcher Jenny Gladding is in the circle. She is the team leader with a .578 batting average, the team leader with five doubles, has a slugging percentage of 1.089 and a team-high on-base percentage of .635. She also has the longest active hitting streak with 11 games with nine multiple hit games... Giordano, a slap hitter, has some power. She hit a grand slam in the Cats Pepsi Class and has scored 20 runs as the set-up batter in the No. 2 hole... her 13 game hitting streak is the longest streak this season... Mascarenas' 27 RBI leads the club as does her 1.187 slugging percentage... Arizona's defense has been key so far this year. The team fielding percentage is .988 with only four errors... Pitching has been as much a story as Arizona's slugging power. The team earned run average is 0.31, as Lemke (6-0), Jennie Finch (5-0) and Gladding (4-0) have held opponents to only six runs scored in 15 games. Finch hasn't allowed a run in her five starts, and the club has 12 shutouts... Lemke and Teresa Demeter combined for a five-inning no hitter against Bowling Green, with Lemke striking out nine and Demeter one in her one inning of 'relief' pitching... The Cats' 29-0 victory over BGSU is believed to be a school record for runs, as is the 17-run fourth inning UA put together... The Pepsi Softball Classic was one of the best opening weekend crowds in school history with a three-day average of 1562... Arizona has a 22-game home winning streak dating to a 4-3 lost to Stanford on April 9, 2000.
